On July 27, 2023, at the headquarters of the Industrial Development Agency (ARP) in Warsaw, Świętokrzyskie Industrial Group INDUSTRIA (ŚGP INDUSTRIA) and the Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone (KSSSE) signed a letter of intent regarding cooperation in the localisation of a modular nuclear power plant (SMR) based on Rolls-Royce SMR technology within the areas covered by the activities of the KSSSE.
On behalf of the Parties, the letter was signed by the Presidents of the Management Boards of the Parties: Mr. Szczepan Ruman and Mr. Krzysztof Kielec. The signing ceremony also witnessed the presence of Mr. Jarosław Porwich, a Member of the Supervisory Board of ARP, Mr. Łukasz Gałczyński, Vice President of the Management Board of ARP, and Mr. Andrzej Nowarski, the SMR Program Director at ŚGP INDUSTRIA.
Mr. Jarosław Porwich stated: “I am delighted that INDUSTRIA is interested in locating an SMR power plant with Rolls-Royce’s proven technology in our region. Rolls-Royce is well-known to everyone as an automotive brand, but it has a strong reputation in the industry as a global producer of aircraft engines and nuclear reactors that power British submarines“.
Mr. Łukasz Gałczyński added: “For over a year now, we have been supporting ŚGP INDUSTRIA in its collaboration with Rolls-Royce SMR. After signing the first agreement with Rolls-Royce SMR last year, the companies announced the signing of a Memorandum of Intent concerning the creation of research and development capabilities and the SMR energy supply chain in Poland for the planned deployment of over 10 Rolls-Royce SMR units in our country. We are glad that today, at the ARP headquarters, ŚGP INDUSTRIA has taken another step by signing the Letter of Intent for the first location“.
Mr. Krzysztof Kielec said: “The ecosystem of special economic zones is a suitable support system for companies seeking locations for large investments. The letter signed today is one of the fruits of the conference we organized in May on Poland’s energy security, in which ŚGP INDUSTRIA participated”.
Mr. Szczepan Ruman stated: “Signing the Letter of Intent for the first location is an important step for us in our cooperation with Rolls-Royce SMR, based on the Memorandum of Intent and the objectives set out therein. We are pleased that we could do this at the headquarters of our Owner, and we signed the Letter with such an important institution for the Polish economy as the Kostrzyn-Słubice Special Economic Zone”.
Mr. Andrzej Nowarski concluded: “The next important steps for our program will be to submit a ‘General Opinion’ request to the National Atomic Energy Agency and ‘Fundamental Decisions’ requests to the Ministry of Climate and Environment for the first locations. Today we are one step closer to achieving these goals”.
